Animal Ask: Farm Animal Coalition - Organization of the month

In the animal protection movement or in one organization’s operation, there is no doubt that strong campaigns or policies have the potential to affect more animals,  improve their quality of life, and are more easily achieved. In contrast, the weakest campaigns can have no, or even a negative, effect. This makes careful research essential to make well-informed decisions about where the movement's limited campaign resources are spent and that’s why Animal Ask focuses their energy on researching to help animals.

Who is Animal Ask?

Animal Ask is a non-profit research consultancy that aims to improve the lives of animals by supporting the global animal advocacy movement in its efforts to oppose animal exploitation. They achieve this by providing organizations and funders with research that assists them in making informed decisions about their advocacy efforts. Animal Ask provides support to animal advocacy organizations through three programs: Ask Prioritisation, Consultation and Movement Strategy Research. Best thing of all? They mainly provide research services on a full pro-bono basis!

What is Animal Ask doing?

Animal Ask provides support to animal advocacy organizations through three programs: Ask Prioritisation, Consultation and Movement Strategy Research.

The organization’s  Ask Prioritisation program identifies the most impactful campaign opportunities available to organizations working to improve the lives of animals in their region. The outcome of the research programme will see Animal Ask recommendations. Examples of this program are their Brazil, Ghana, Egypt and USA reports.

They work with groups in need for help on a consultation basis where the request could be:

  • An extensive report on one particular campaign option or policy

  • Country scoping covers a review of existing protections, the number of animals used or affected by humans, market conditions and opportunities for advocacy

Their movement strategy research examines the broad approaches to advocacy for potentially high-impact opportunities that may be neglected by the movement. In 2025, the Animal Ask plans to investigate various ideas, including shareholder activism, policy benchmarking, opportunities within international politics, and numerous other opportunities (e.g. see their previous report on the value of divestment campaigns).

If you are an organization working on farmed animal advocacy and would like to collaborate with Animal Ask to identify the most promising campaigns for farmed animals in your country, please fill out an expression of interest here. The team is very excited to work with more groups in Asia.

Beyond their country-specific research, the group also has a wide range of global research, useful for animal advocates in all countries. Click here to see our research database.
